This afternoon in Central Park, Sony and Petco are partnering up to try to break the
Guinness World Record for the most adopted dogs in one place. Oh, and
Gavin Degraw is apparently performing too.
The effort is intended to raise awareness about pet adoption, and particularly Petco’s adoption program which, they say, has placed more than 3 million animals in new homes.
The event starts at 4pm near the Naumberg Bandshell in Central Park. Counting begins at 5pm, and in order to be counted, you must have paperwork proving that your doggie was adopted from a shelter/rescue organization.
They’re going to have to gather at least 250 adopted dogs in order to set the record, so if you don’t have to be at work this afternoon, grab your shelter dog and make your way to the park!

This poor dog.
New York Fashion Week isn’t just for humans anymore (do runway models even count as human?). Last night at
Bergdorf Goodman, models of the canine persuasion marched down the runway sporting the most avant garde in doggy fashion.
Gothamist has a decent slideshow of the pampered pups, but frankly I’m disappointed in The Cut’s coverage. I mean, focus much?
And in case you were wondering, no, Duke will not be hitting the catwalk next year.

Meet the Breeds, hosted by the American Kennel Club (AKC) and Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) returns to NYC this year, on October 16th and 17th.
The Jacob Javits Center will surely be overrun with thousands of visitors elbowing their way to see and interact with some of the hundred-plus dogs and cats at the show. There will be over 200 official breed booths set up, as well as 100 vendor booths offering all sorts of products.
You can also head over to PawNation to vote for the breeds that best represent New York City.
My suggestion? Go to Meet the Breeds, learn about the right sort of pet for your lifestyle, and then contact one of these (or other) breed rescue groups to save a life of an animal that was abandoned or surrendered.
Tickets purchased online for Meet the Breeds cost $12 per adult and $8 per child. Go here for more info.
